Friends Annual Visit to Gibraltar

The annual visit to Gibraltar will be held on 12th to 16th June.

For information: On Sunday, 11th June, as part of the WRNS 100 Anniversary weekend, the Friends have been invited to the “unveiling of the plaque” ceremony and cutting of the cake in Kings Chapel Music Room after the morning service in the Kings Chapel which itself starts at 10.30am.
Monday 12th of June
09.30 – 10.30
Welcome at the Gibraltar Heritage Trust (GHT).
To be held upstairs at the GHT Main Guard, John Mackintosh Square. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
Tour of the Convent Frescoes, in groups of a maximum of 8 people. 15 minute intervals to see the recently refurbished Franciscan Frescoes ( funded by the Friends) and hear about their history. Guide TBC.
Note; A full list of names are required for security to be submitted at least a week prior to the visit, those wishing to see the Frescoes. Please advise Janet via email by the 2nd June.
13.30 – 16.00
Lunch at Royal Gibraltar Yacht Club
Payment for this lunch is £25.00pp, wine is provided with the meal only. Cash (only) is to be handed over to Janet on Monday morning during the welcome at the Heritage Trust. Please ensure the money is placed within a sealed envelope with your name clearly marked on the front, including RGYC reference. If you wish to purchase additional drinks prior to the lunch, you are responsible for that purchase.

Rock Hotel. Complimentary Welcome drinks reception for members of the Friends only, and courtesy of the Management. Please advise Janet of your attendance on email.
Tuesday 13th of June
08.45 – 20.00
Guided Day Trip to Seville with Tito Vallejo. We need to be at the collection point at 08.45 depart at 09.00 prompt, leaving on the Spanish side of the Frontier. The full itinerary of the day is attached and may vary slightly. Return from Seville at 18.30, back to Gibraltar approximately 20.00.
Advise Janet as soon as possible. The coach will be waiting on the Spanish side of the frontier, please remember to bring your passport to cross the frontier. Payment for the trip will be required IN ADVANCE please on Monday 12th June at GHT offices, estimate £20 pp, plus lunch on a pay as you go basis.

09.00 Westside Comprehensive Girls School Award Presentation

10.00 Bayside Comprehensive Boys School Award Presentation
This is a new initiative for the Friends, which starts from the academic year 2016 -17 and is open to all year 8 pupils at both schools. The Award is specifically for outstanding work in the subject area of the history/heritage of Gibraltar.
Note – Following the above Awards, number 2 bus leaves Marketplace bus station directly to Europa Point near the Gibraltar University.
11:30 – 12:30 Gibraltar University Bursary Awards 2nd year. More detail to follow
16:00 -18:00 Visit the Tower meet new Commander of British Forces Commodore Mike Walliker, arranged through Richard Lord.
Muster at Police Post, Naval Base, entrance nearest the Tower.
Drinks reception £8pp. Please have cash prepared in envelope and give to Richard Lord on Monday morning at GHT. Please bring ID to event
Thursday the 15th of June
10.45 – 12.00 Tour of the Share Hashamayim oldest Synagogue in Gibraltar. Tour starts at 11:00 with Mesod Belilio. Located on Engineers Lane, near Cheers Resturant and Cornwall’s Parade. Please bear in mind religious observations. Meet outside Synagogue.
12.30 -13.30 BEHER Gibraltar – Delicatessen, World class, best bellota jamin tasting. Casemates Square, near ICC building and taxi rank. Cold meats cheese wine – cost tbc
17:00 – 18:00 HMQ Birthday Parade at Casemates Square. Seated invitations through Richard Lord, who must be advised 3 weeks prior to event. You must take your invitation. Recommend dress – smart casual.
Friday 16th of June
10.00 – 10.45 Tour and progress update at Witham’s Cemetery, hosted with Keith Farrell from GHT.
11.00 – 13.00 Wine Tasting and Historical Presentation hosted with Anglo Hispano at their Sandpits magazine. There is a maximum of 22 person capacity. Payment of £10 pp. Location is at Sandpits magazine, adjacent to Witham’s Cemetery.
Depending on interest, a pay as you go Farewell Supper at a local resturant could be arranged.
Conclusion of Friends visit.
